Banned Resistance Co-Founders

Jill: Jill is a professor of education at a regional university in the Midwest who studies LGBTQ-inclusive elementary literacy practices. She was an elementary school teacher in the South, and has been a participant researcher in elementary classrooms in the midwest. She is the main wrangler of Banned Resistance.

Jay: Jay is a counselor to mostly queer and trans young adults and their families. He is the former executive director of an LGBTQ center in the Midwest. He often finds himself at Jill’s dining room table, writing, reaching out to community members across the country, and helping Banned Resistance keep our focus and stay in our lane.

Ryan: Ryan is an associate professor of literacy education at a large Southern university who studies queer literacy practices in secondary education. He is a former high school English teacher, and continues to spend time in secondary English classrooms where he conducts research. While he might not be at Jill’s dining room table, his ideas, writing, and advising are at the center of this work.
